Adult Special Needs Piano

Adult Special Needs Piano Lessons

We love to work with individuals with special learning needs and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to gain the benefits of the piano.

Nearly everyone can enjoy performing at the piano, thereby gaining all the benefits thereof!   We offer lessons to students who are blind, those with autism, dyslexia, Downs, Asperger’s, stroke victims and dementia.  We also offer lessons to those with physical handicaps due to illness or accident missing use of arms or fingers.

Our non-traditional methods work for individuals who need a different approach.  The more they engage with the piano, the greater the benefit, permitting more engagement.

The Benefits
  • Yamaha says it best, ” Success in music, success in life … it’s no coincidence.”
  • It’s true; the attributes that you desire your children to have, are best accomplished by piano lessons.
  • The piano is the number one brain-function enhancer, above all other activities you may choose to be involved in.
  • When a person above the age of 7 years, plays the piano and sings, every part of their brain in engaged.
  • The right hemisphere and left hemisphere of the brain, flow together and format the brain for “orderly storage and retrieval” of information for four or five hours after you practice.
  • Students involved with the piano get higher grades in school, especially excelling in math, reading and science.
The Curriculum
  • We have found that our non-traditional methods of teaching really work with preschool children and those adults slipping into dementia.
  • We analyze the needs before we make recommendations for the curriculum.
  • Materials are not included in the monthly fee, may be purchased through Perfect Praise, and will vary by student.
The Structures
  • A structure is developed that incorporates the different levels of musical benefit as laid out in her Music Helps Autism book.
  • The study is self-paced.
  • We recommend that an assisting adult attend the lessons with the student, and create a four-tiered musical environment at home.
  • 20 private lessons are offered each week in an on-going format.
  • One-month advance, written termination notice required.
  • Due to full schedules makes up lessons are usually not offered, so select a day/time that will work with your schedule.
  • In-studio and Virtual Private Instruction are offered.
  • Our physical location is 6125 University Drive, Suite B-26, Huntsville AL 35806 (Behind Cheddars)
  • Note:  We are NOT music therapists.  We have found that our non-traditional method of approaching the piano really works for the very young and those with special needs of any kind.  The Piano is the Therapy, not us!

  • Application Fee: $30 non-refundable application fee is due at the time of enrollment.
